At Airviz Inc., we value your trust and partnership and will work as hard as we can to earn it and keep it. Please read our privacy policy for information on:

  • What information we collect and why we collect it
  • How we use that information
  • The choices we offer, including how to access and update your choices

What information do we collect?

We collect personal information such as your name, billing and shipping address, email address, phone number, and credit card information during purchase. This information is used to fulfill your Speck order, identify you within our systems, issue any additional refunds or charges necessary, and to maintain your relationship as a customer. At any time, you may ask to be removed from our mailing list by contacting us at support@specksensor.com. You are not added to our mailing list simply by sending us an email inquiry.

Who views your information?

Your personal information is kept secure and we will never sell it to a third party. Only authorized employees, contractors, or agents of Airviz have access to this information.

Your data belongs to you.

We mean it. Your data does not belong to us or any other third parties, it belongs to you. At its core, Speck is about empowerment. Our goal is to provide everyday citizens with an affordable tool that makes the invisible visible, and enables you to make informed decisions about how to improve your air quality. Data collected with Speck belong to you, its user, and you have the power to decide how to apply that information and take action to breathe easier. We will never monetize the information that you collect with your Speck.

What happens with the data that I upload to my account on specksensor.com?

You may choose to configure your Speck to upload to our open-source data repository via specksensor.com. In doing so, you may choose whether to register your data as "private," or "public." If you choose "private", the Speck location and associated data will be visible only to you and the Airviz developers. Speck data and associated metadata (location, device name, etc) are not stored in encrypted form, enabling Airviz to look at the data if we need to (e.g. helping a customer resolve issues). If you choose "public", you agree to make the Speck location and associated data publicly accessible and consent to us or the public aggregating that data for future analysis.

At any time, if you decide to change your settings between "private" or "public," please email us at support@specksensor.com. We will happily make that change for you. We will soon be adding the ability for you to switch between public and private yourself, as often as you want, enabling you to change your mind at any time and either grant or revoke public access to any Speck installation location dataset.

What types of wireless encryption does Speck support?

For connecting to your Wi-Fi network, the Speck supports open wireless networks (no encryption), WEP, WPA, and WPA2 Personal. We strongly recommend using WPA2 Personal when possible. The Speck can use either the 802.11b or 802.11g wireless protocol. It does not support 802.11n.

We're not perfect.

We'll do our best to grow and maintain Airviz Inc. as a private company that services our customers. We promise to respond to problems you let us know about, but we can't promise that we will never lose data or make other mistakes. We do keep regular backups and keep our servers maintained and secured as best as possible. When you make a purchase from Airviz Inc., you agree that the only remedies for problems resulting from your use of our products are a sincere and personal apology and possibly a refund of the amount you have paid to Airviz Inc. Our software and products are designed to enable you to take control of your air quality, and we will always strive to improve.

Terms and Conditions of Sale

We are committed to empowering you with the Speck sensor to monitor your air quality and to learn how your decisions impact your family's air quality health. Below is the legalese of the Terms of Sale that we need to provide legally. In simple English, here is a summary:

  1. We may need to change prices in the future.
  2. We sell the Speck with a six month warranty. We are doing our best to ensure the Speck lasts much longer, of course.
  3. The Speck is not a federal device or a medical device. Use the Speck but remember that you are in charge—this is just an information-gathering device for your consideration. Please don't sue us; instead, use the Speck to empower yourself to improve your air quality exposure.

Now the legal version:

All prices are subject to change by Seller without notice. All prices specified herein are exclusive of any costs of any sales, use, value added, excise, gross receipts, business and occupation or similar present or future taxes imposed by any governmental body on the sale, delivery, use or other handling of the Products or in connection with any related or contemplated transactions, which are to be borne by Buyer. If Seller determines that its ability to supply the total demand for the Products, or to obtain material used directly or indirectly in the manufacture of the Products, is hindered, limited or made impracticable, Seller may allocate its available supply of the Products on such basis as Seller determines to be equitable without liability for any failure of performance which may result therefrom.

Seller warrants that the Products manufactured by Seller will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and regular service and maintenance for a period of six months from the date of shipment of the Products by Seller, unless otherwise specified by Seller in writing. Products purchased by Seller from a third party for resale to Buyer will carry only the warranty extended by the original manufacturer. THE WARRANTY SET FORTH IN THIS SECTION ARE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE WARRANTIES GIVEN BY SELLER WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCTS AND ARE IN LIEU OF AND EXCLUDE ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, ARISING BY OPERATION OF LAW OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE WHETHER OR NOT THE PURPOSE OR USE HAS BEEN DISCLOSED TO SELLER IN SPECIFICATIONS, DRAWINGS OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT SELLER'S PRODUCTS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED AND/OR MANUFACTURED BY SELLER FOR BUYER'S OR ANY OTHER PERSON'S USE OR PURPOSE.

This warranty does not extend to any losses or damages due to misuse, accident, abuse, neglect, normal wear and tear, corrosion, moisture, Buyer's or any other person's negligence, unauthorized modification or alteration, use beyond rated capacity, unsuitable power sources or environmental conditions, improper installation, repair, handling, maintenance or application or any other cause not the fault of Seller, and, unless otherwise specified by Seller in writing, Seller has no duty to install, inspect, observe, advise and/or warn as to the Products, or as to any other products or conditions located on Buyer's property or work site, at the time of sale, delivery, or otherwise.

Except for Buyer's express warranties under this section, Buyer assumes all other responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury to persons or property arising out of, connected with, or resulting from the use of Products, either alone or in combination with other products/components, and shall indemnify, defend, and hold Seller harmless for any such loss, damage or injury.


SELLER IS NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY DELAY IN PERFORMANCE AND IN NO EVENT, REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF THE CLAIM OR CAUSE OF ACTION (WHETHER BASED IN LAW, EQUITY, CONTRACT, INFRINGEMENT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OTHER TORT OR OTHERWISE), DOES SELLER'S LIABILITY TO BUYER AND/OR END USERS FOR ANY OTHER DAMAGES HEREUNDER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES IN AN ACTION FOR CONTRIBUTION OR INDEMNITY) EXCEED THE PRICE PAID BY BUYER FOR THE SPECIFIC PRODUCTS PROVIDED BY SELLER GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR CAUSE OF ACTION. BUYER AGREES THAT IN NO EVENT DOES SELLER'S LIABILITY TO BUYER AND/OR END USERS EXTEND TO INCLUDE INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. The term "consequential damages" includes, but is not limited to, loss of anticipated profits; business interruption; loss of use, revenue, reputation or data; costs incurred, including, without limitation, costs for capital, fuel, or power; loss or damage to property or equipment; and environmental clean-up. Any action arising hereunder or relating hereto, regardless of the form of the action (whether based in law, equity, contract, infringement, negligence, strict liability, other tort or otherwise), must be commenced within one (1) year after the date of shipment or it shall be barred.

Unless otherwise specified by Seller in writing, it is expressly understood that any technical advice furnished by Seller with respect to the use of the Products is given without charge, and Seller assumes no obligation or liability for the advice given or not given, or results obtained, all such advice being given and accepted at Buyer's risk.

Buyer expressly acknowledges and agrees that Seller has set its prices and entered into the Agreement in reliance upon the limitations of liability and other terms and conditions specified herein, which allocate the risk between Buyer and Seller and form a basis of this bargain between the parties.

Exchange Policy

To replace your Speck, contact us at support@specksensor.com. One of our team members will first try troubleshooting your Speck so that you can avoid a replacement, if possible.

We are happy to replace a broken device as long as it is under warranty. A postage paid return label will be provided to you to return your defective device. The label will have the order number, the return address, and a USPS tracking number. Please keep a record of the tracking number for future reference. Once you receive the return label, the Speck must be shipped within 3 business days with all accessories, manuals, etc. and in the original packaging.

You can expect to receive your replacement Speck within three weeks, usually quicker. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive the faulty Speck from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (1 to 3 business days), and the transit time for you to receive your replacement Speck (5 to 10 business days).

Return Policy

If you are not completely satisfied with your Speck, please contact us within 30 days of receiving your Speck at sales@specksensor.com. You may receive a full product refund within 30 days of the delivery date, provided that the Speck returns in new condition with all accessories, manuals, etc. and in the original packaging. We will confirm delivery date using the tracking number that was provided to you upon shipment.

You can expect to receive your refund within three weeks, usually quicker. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (1 to 3 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days). We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item. The refund will be made to the original credit card used for the purchase.
